A worker bee usually lives six weeks during the summer, and during that time it has a variety of different jobs
including - nurse, undertaker, architect, cleaner, attendant, guard, forager. In the winter time they have a longer lifespan
because they help the hive to provide warmth. A queen bee on the other hand lives between one to five years!

When a honeybee stings, its stinger gets stuck in the skin. When the honey bee tries to escape,
it breaks off from the stinger, leaving part of its abdomen and possible its bowels behind. So, unfortunately a bee does die when it stings you.
Why are bees dying?
Honeybee and native populations have been dwindling in the past couple decades due to a lack of native habitat
food sources and overuse of pesticides, insecticides and fertilizers. These chemicals can last up to a year in the ground and
they inevetably get into the root system of plants and therefore into the pollen which the bees are taking back to their hive and storing/consuming. This is just one of the many reasons that bee populations are dwindling.
